I download "things" from RapidShare pretty regularly.
Recently I've been getting the message that all servers were busy, I need to try again at another time or become a premium user.
So, I've tried and tried to finish the rest of the rars for something I wanted but it always gave me the same message day and night.
Last night I was in the back bedroom on the other computer and went to rapidshare to get something else and got right in, that made me think- What's different about this computer?
Besides the operating system, nothing. that one's running Vista Ultimate, this one's running 7 Ultimate.
Then I remembered that one is the one I play Mafia Wars on, and Zynga uses flash cookies to find people who are running multiple accounts.
So I did a couple of things to that one to block and remove so called "Super Cookies" (LSO, Locally Stored Object) The first was to go to the flash control panel and set the storage settings to 0
The second was to install BetterPrivacy in firefox to delete the ones that had already tagged me.
So I did the same to the Windows 7 Box, and Viola!
Immediately I could download at RapidShare again.
Funny. Macromedia, the company that invented flash, named the cookie extension .SOL And you really are S.O.L. if you allow them to stay on your computer.

Thanks for the info, Carl. I've installed BetterPrivacy now ok  I didn't even realise there were such things as super cookies, but, as they say, you learn something new every day Cheesy

I consider them a breech of privacy, because no one tells you they use them, you just find them on your computer.
there are companies like iesnare that make money from tracking people around the net using those same super cookies that most people don't know about, and you can't delete using the browsers cookie management tools
